Holiday Luncheon, Dec 3, 2012

It’s time for our annual Holiday Luncheon, which will be held for the first time at the Hacienda Hotel on December 3, 2012 at 11 AM. The ARC Board decided on this venue in an effort to keep the cost reasonable and, the location convenient. The luncheon will be in the Crystal Ballroom on the second floor. There is an elevator off the Courtyard in the front of the hotel and stairs at the rear.

The cost of the luncheon is $35 which includes self-parking validation. The menu selections are: Chicken California, Sole Amandine, and Pasta Primavera; including salad, warm rolls and butter, coffee, tea, or milk, and dessert.

There will be a social hour at 11 AM, followed by lunch at noon. Dr. Wanda Austin, President and CEO, will give an update on the status of the Corporation. Judy Gonser, Director of Employee Benefits and Labor Relations, will report on retiree benefits, and Jenny Shannon, Assistant Treasurer, will report on the status of the retirement fund.

The Hacienda is located at 525 N. Sepulveda Bl, at Mariposa Avenue, in El Segundo. There is street parking and a self-parking lot, across the street, which will be validated.

Reservations are due by November 23, 2012.

See you December 3. If you don’t come, you’ll be missed.

AWC Clothing Drive, Aug 20-22

The Aerospace Women’s Committee (AWC) invites all current and former employees and their families to participate in the annual “Clothes the Deal” clothing drive set for Monday, Aug. 20, through Wednesday, Aug. 22, in El Segundo.

New or gently used men’s and women’s business clothing is being collected and will benefit Clothes the Deal, a nonprofit organization that provides clothing to low-income men and women for use during job interviews. In addition to clothing items, accessories such as dress shoes, handbags, belts, scarves, watches and jewelry are also being accepted.

Collection bins will be located in both the A8 Lobby and in the D8 Lobby by the first-floor elevator. We ask that you submit all clothing items on hangers.

For more information about this collection, contact Peggy Kearney-Soranno at 310-336-0236, or Jane Ryan at 310-336-2470.

Since this event requires that people look in their closets and drawers, we wanted to offer a bit more notice. A special request was sent out to solicit items from Retirees as they “down-size” their wardrobe to reflect their new life-style.

New Aerospace Website Launches

The new public website for The Aerospace Corporation has been launched.

Nearly a year in preparation, this new site, http://www.aerospace.org, features a modern graphic design and up-to-date content. Over the next few months, more interactive features and additional content will be added.

An advisory committee comprising representatives of major program offices and OSG divisions assisted in developing the website design.

Facility Access Changes for Aerospace Retirees

After 9/11, security at Aerospace facilities and Los Angeles Air Force Base (LAAFB) has increased to address the safety and protection of all Aerospace and Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) personnel. Part of this effort includes implementing facility access changes for Aerospace retirees. The following changes took effect January 1, 2003.

Retiree ID cards will no longer be issued. Previously issued cards will be recognized as a valid photo ID only.

Retiree parking decals will no longer be issued. Retirees will be directed to a visitor center for further processing as needed (e.g., access to buildings, credit union, airport shuttle/travel parking). This does not apply to retiree casuals.

Retirees are not losing access privileges to Aerospace; this is simply a change in access procedures.
